"My grandmother understood that the future of food was in the hands of my generation. Nanny Jan, passed the skills and passion of the seed to table cycle down to me. These lessons inspire me to lead the Edible Schoolyard Kern County into the future of Edible Education with a passionate team of educators."

"My zeal for organic, whole food nutrition started as an adult in an attempt to heal my body from various ailments. I started on this path about 6 years ago and have never looked back. It is such a blessing to have the opportunity to be on the front lines of teaching kids how to prepare nutrient dense foods to fuel their bodies. These are skills they will hone in on for the rest of their lives."

"My love for edible education began when I was in high school and started volunteering at the local farmer's market, where I learned about where my food was coming from. I deeply appreciate how growing food and cooking meals together builds, strengthens, and expands our community. Witnessing students have first-time experiences in the outdoors is what makes this work so crucial for me. As I watch students dig in the dirt, squealing with delight as they unearth golden potatoes, silently wiggling in their fingers, I know that they are creating memories and connections that will stay with them throughout their lives."

Kelsie Holman
Kitchen Educator Buena Vista

"I was able to learn about the art of cooking while working in a restaurant as a young adult. Ever since then, I have loved experimenting with different types of cuisines and using a variety of fresh ingredients to make tasty dishes. The best part about working as a Kitchen Educator is my ability to experiment alongside the students and teach the tips and tricks I have learned along the way."

Itzel Camarena
Garden Educator Buena Vista

"My passion for edible education stemmed from my desire to be more self sufficient. Through gardening and cooking I've learned so much about myself and have seen first hand how rewarding it can be to adapt the seed to table lifestyle. I'm profoundly grateful to be able to share this passion with whomever walks into our campus and beyond."

Emilie Crown
Garden Educator Buena Vista

"My deepest passions have always been plants and people. Edible education blends these two passions into the best reality. I love getting to inspire the next generation with the wonderful and wacky world of nature. Nature has a beautiful way of slowing the hustle and bustle of life and I want every student to experience that unique tranquility."
